This was the tragic story that left Yovani David, only 14 years old, quadriplegic and without the possibility of realizing his dream of being a professional soccer player. Let’s learn in detail the sad case of medical incompetence that occurred in Jalisco.
Yovani David was a young promise for Mexican soccer, his family and teammates saw him with great potential. He already had scheduled tryouts with first division clubs such as Monterrey and Mazatlán, to test his talent.
This was the main reason that led Yovani to undergo knee surgery to treat a slight injury that afflicted him in that part of the body. In the mother’s own words, it would be a simple process, since it was not something that would limit his mobility, he just wanted to be ready and arrive in the best possible condition for his important tests.
After a few minutes, when she entered the operating room, the doctors at the clinic informed Josefina Suárez, Yovani’s mother, that her son had complications and that it was best to transfer him to another clinic so that they could treat him properly.
“Your son became ill, take him now, the ambulance is coming and they will take him away,” these were the only words they told Josefina, and they confirmed to her that the operation had not been carried out.
The State Commission for Human Rights had to intervene, who investigated that Yovani suffered a cardiac arrest before the operation began, an arrest derived from a bad anesthetic procedure. At the time, he was revived and stabilized and then transferred to the civil hospital in Guadalajara, where he was discharged after a few days, but unfortunately Yovani already had various physical and organic after-effects.
Currently, Yovani David has osteoporosis and hip fractures, all derived from that poorly performed anesthetic process.
Josefina cries out for justice and compensation for the damage, she says that her son’s health is getting worse and she has not received any response from the authorities. In addition, neither the person responsible nor the clinic to which he is assigned have received any punishment for their responsibility.
