Can she imagine spending a month thinking that she has cancer, receiving treatment, and in the end it was a wrong diagnosis? That was the case of Lisa Monk from Texas, United States, which we will tell you about below.
It all started when in January 2023 she underwent surgery to remove a mass in her spleen, which doctors realized when they removed two kidney stones. The removed tumor was analyzed in three pathology laboratories and the results revealed to Monk that she had a type of terminal cancer called clear cell angiosarcoma, which affects the lining of blood and lymph vessels.
Monk said in an interview with the Daily Mail that, in her follow-up appointments after her intervention on her spleen, she was given a life expectancy of 15 months and she was referred to an oncologist to start as soon as possible. possible with intensive chemotherapy.
After her devastating diagnosis, Ella Monk spoke to her loved ones, although without telling them that her prognosis was 15 months to live and that it was terminal cancer.
After the first cycle of chemotherapy and having lost all her hair, she Monk said goodbye to her loved ones, she wrote goodbye letters to the grandchildren she would not meet and to the weddings she would not attend. She defines these moments as a very dark time.
In April, Monk attended a routine appointment to begin the second phase of chemotherapy. However, during a checkup the nurse asked about her symptoms and she stopped the conversation to talk to the doctor.
Upon her return, the doctor told her that she had never really had cancer and it was a misdiagnosis. Instead of apologizing for the mistake, the doctor congratulated Monk, which infuriated her.
Although Monk only received chemotherapy for a month, she continues to pay the hospital fees because it was an expensive process, as well as painful and left her without hair.
However, Ella Monk says her biggest upset is the pain it caused her family, especially her children who had to face the possibility of her mother dying.
